Vinyl, which look and feel like plastic, we do not typically recommend. They are generally about the same price as composite shutters but are not as durable and do not look or feel like real wood. Most repairs that have to be done on shutters are vinyl shutters. This vinyl shutter also comes with the option of motorization to be used with their popular Power View system. Perfect for high or hard to reach windows!

The next and most popular kind of plantation shutter is a composite shutter (also known as faux wood). Our composite shutter is a solid composite material unlike other composites that are a compressed MDF wood wrapped in vinyl. Not only can you not tell the difference between it and wood but our composite shutter can get wet making it a great choice for wet areas such as showers, bathrooms and kitchens. They will never crack, chip, warp, fade or yellow and are one of the most durable window treatment options available. Typically your plantation shutters should match the color of your trim and our composite shutters come in 4 shades of white/off white that usually match most trim colors.

Lastly, there is real wood plantation shutters. Once thought of as “the best” is now typically used only when needing to match a stain color in a home or room that requires it. They are more expensive than composite and more delicate. Unlike composite shutters you cannot put wood shutters in wet areas so even if you choose wood for the majority of the windows in your home you will need to consider another option in your wet areas. There are many colors to choose from, including custom staining and painting, so finding your perfect match will be easy.
